CONTROVERSY IN IMO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, AS 7 LAWMAKERS FEAR SUSPENSION.
Cold war has lingered in the Imo state House of Assembly in the past few weeks, as the House witnessed a Political downturn over allegations of misappropriation of funds meant for running and maintenance of the House businesses , alleged certificate forgery by Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins, the Speaker of the House of Assembly and above all, the gross negligence of House rules by the speaker. These three allegations have continued to dominate discussions among House members, staff, friends and visitors to the Assembly complex.
However, the present House of Assembly under the leadership of Dr. Chiji Collins has witnessed rough ride in his daily dealings with colleagues. At the moment the House is divided into three strong groups which has made legislation and oversight function somewhat impossible.
The embattled Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins has devised a tactical strategy to save his position and allies as he has ran to the governor for help. A source very close to Chiji Collins, who pleaded not to be mentioned told our news desk revealed that, the Speaker has gone into an accord with the governor just to save himself from the plot of being removed by aggrieved members who has described the Chiji Collins led House of Assembly as “flying a kite”. Further revelations has shown that, part of the accord between the governor and Speaker is rooted on the capacity of Speaker to use every machinery to his disposal to suspend 7 lawmakers.
According to our source, the Speaker told the governor that these lawmakers are working close to close with some relevant stakeholders in the state just to frustrate the present administration. On hearing this plot by some lawmakers, the governor has promised to help the speaker in any capacity he can. Infact, this has made the Speaker to secure the approval and support of the governor to suspend these lawmakers.
The lawmakers tipped for suspension include:
- Hon. Sam Otuibe
- Hon. Michael Crown
- Hon. Kennedy Ibe
- Hon. Dominic Ezerioha
- Hon. Uche Ogbuagu
- Hon Paul Emeziem
- Hon Uju Onwudiwe
These lawmakers mentioned above will be surprised by the new development in the House any moment in the weeks ahead.
