The governor of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, has kicked against President Muhammadu Buhari’s nomination of Lauretta Onochie as the new commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Governor Tambuwal made this call to the president during the swearing-in of the chairman and members of the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission (SSIEC) on Wednesday, October 14, The Cable reports.
The Sokoto government urged President Buhari to look for a more competent and credible person for the office.
Moreover, the northern governor noted that the very fact that Onochie is loyal to the APC disqualifies her for the position.
“We must be seen to be doing what will consolidate our gains in the electoral process, not what will obviously put us in reverse gear.”
Tambuwal went on to say that one of the greatest legacies Buhari can leave behind is the improvement of Nigeria’s electoral processes.
