Amid Protest, IGP Adamu Orders Withdrawal Of Policemen From VIPs

The inspector-general of police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the prompt withdrawal of policemen attached to top people and celebrities across the country.

This disclosure was made on Wednesday, October 21, amid ongoing contention trailing the shooting of EndSARS protesters in Lekki axis of Lagos state by the security operatives.

The IGP emphasised that the directive is with immediate effect, adding that “any commander who violates this order will bear the consequences.”

In a strict warning, Adamu also directed the affected police officers to report to their respective commands.

Those attached to Government Houses, the president of the Senate Ahmed Lawan, and the House of Representatives speaker Femi Gbajabiamila are however not affected by this directive.

The decision was announced barely five months after IGP withdrew the policemen escorting popular businessman Emeka Okonkwo over alleged abuse of privilege.

Part of the directive addressed to all zonal assistant inspector general and all state commissioners of police read:

“Any protect personnel found escorting or guarding any VIP with or without a firearm is deemed to be deployed by the commander and the commander will be sanctioned.”
