Ikoyi Prison On Fire As Hoodlums Attempt Jailbreak

The Nigerian Correctional Service in Ikoyi, Lagos was attacked by suspected hoodlums.

According to The Cable, facilities at the prisons were torched as the hoodlums make attempt to break into prison cells.

“The prison is on fire, everyone running for safety now,” the news outlet reports, quoting a source.

However, the prison authorities immediately notified the police and the military for backup.

As a result of this, policemen and soldiers have been deployed to the Correctional Centre in a bid to foil the attempted jailbreak.

Premium Times also reported that in the process, many inmates were shot by the combined team of correctional service officers and other security personnel.
